A striking development occurred ahead of the critical MYK meeting to be held today in the CHP. The CHP memberships of 9 deputies, who were referred to the Supreme Disciplinary Board with a request for definitive expulsion, were deleted from the Supreme Court records. While CHP Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan reacted to the decision, Kılıçdaroğlu's lawyer Celal Çelik argued that the process is a routine procedure applied due to a precautionary disciplinary referral. If the decision is communicated to the Turkish Grand National Assembly, the 9 deputies are expected to become independent.
While eyes in the CHP turn to the Central Executive Committee (MYK) meeting chaired by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu today at 14:00, a new development raising tension within the party occurred before the meeting. The party memberships of 9 deputies, referred to the disciplinary board with a request for definitive expulsion, were deleted from the Supreme Court records.
NOTEWORTHY DEVELOPMENT BEFORE CRITICAL MYK IN CHP
A new development that stirred the party backstage occurred before the Central Executive Committee meeting chaired by CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu today at 14:00.
After the 'absolute nullity' decision of the Ankara Regional Court of Justice 36th Civil Chamber on May 21, Kılıçdaroğlu, who assumed the CHP Chairmanship, formed a new MYK, which at its meeting on June 10 referred 9 deputies to the CHP High Disciplinary Board with a request for definitive expulsion and precautionary measures.
While the party administration's MYK meeting today is expected to address the formation of new committees, particularly on economy and law, as well as re-evaluating some expulsion files, the decision from the Supreme Court before the meeting drew attention.
DELETED FROM SUPREME COURT RECORDS
Although it is known that the High Disciplinary Board has not yet convened and the expulsion process is not complete, it emerged that the CHP memberships of the 9 deputies referred to the disciplinary board were deleted from the Supreme Court records.
CHP Ankara Deputy Umut Akdoğan reacted to the situation, stating that he noticed his party membership was deleted during a check on e-Government.
In his post, Akdoğan said, 'What's the hurry? There is an unlawful referral to the HDB. We objected. We have the right to defense at the HDB. We have the right to appeal to court. We are CHP members. You cannot delete party membership arbitrarily.'
STATEMENT FROM KILIÇDAROĞLU'S SIDE
Commenting on the issue, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's lawyer Celal Çelik argued that the procedure was carried out within legal procedure.
Çelik stated that the CHP General Secretariat notified the MYK decisions to the Supreme Court, and because the disciplinary referrals are precautionary, removing the membership records of the relevant individuals from the system until the process concludes is a standard practice.
BALANCES IN THE PARLIAMENT MAY SHIFT
If the Supreme Court's decision is communicated to the Speaker's Office of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), a striking situation will emerge. With the decision, the CHP's number of member deputies has decreased from 138 to 129.
After the decision reaches the Parliament, the records of these deputies on the TBMM website are expected to be updated as 'independent deputies'.
NAMES REFERRED TO DISCIPLINARY BOARD WITH EXPULSION REQUEST
The names referred to the CHP High Disciplinary Board with a request for definitive expulsion are as follows:
Ensar Aytekin
Ali Mahir Başarır
Gökhan Günaydın
Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu
Özgür Karabat
Umut Akdoğan
Veli Ağbaba
Turan Taşkın Özer
Burhanettin Bulut
While these files are also expected to be on the agenda at today's CHP MYK meeting, the steps the party administration will take and how the disciplinary process will proceed remain a matter of curiosity.
