Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan announced that all entertainment events in the city have been canceled for three days following the martyrdom of 20 soldiers in the plane crash, and the Turkish flags on the poles in front of the municipal building have been lowered to half-mast.
After the C-130 military cargo plane returning from Azerbaijan crashed near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border, resulting in the martyrdom of 20 soldiers, Bolu Mayor Tanju Özcan announced that all entertainment events in the city would be canceled for three days. Upon Özcan's instruction, the Turkish flags on the poles in front of the main building of Bolu Municipality and other municipal buildings were lowered to half-mast.
"WE ARE DECLARING A NATIONAL MOURNING WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE GOVERNMENT"
In his announcement, Mayor Özcan stated, "Dear fellow citizens, yesterday afternoon, the cargo plane carrying our soldiers from Azerbaijan suspiciously crashed in Georgia. Unfortunately, 20 homes have been set on fire; we have 20 martyrs. One of our martyrs, Nihat İlgen, is also a brother from Bolu. May Allah grant abundant mercy to all our martyrs. As the Bolu Municipality of the Republic of Turkey, we are declaring a national mourning for three days in Bolu without waiting for the government, and we are lowering the Turkish flags to half-mast," he said.
