It has been reported that businessman Ferit Şahenk is stranded in Dubai following Iran's retaliatory attacks. The situation of Turkish citizens in the city is being closely monitored due to the airports being closed. Two people were injured as a result of drone parts falling during the attacks.
After Iran launched a retaliation against the attacks from the USA and Israel, developments in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), also affected the business world. According to journalist Bahar Feyzan, it was claimed that Ferit Şahenk, the Chairman of Doğuş Group, was stranded in Dubai due to the closure of airspace. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation of Turkish citizens in the city.
DRONE PARTS FELL, 2 INJURED
The press office of the Dubai government announced via the US-based X platform that parts of drones intercepted by air defense systems fell into the yards of two houses. Two people were injured in the incident. Health teams intervened with the injured. Authorities reported that the explosion sounds heard throughout the city were due to successful operations of the air defense systems.
Meanwhile, images circulating on social media showed black smoke rising from an area near Dubai Airport.
DUBAI TURNED INTO A GHOST CITY
After Iran's retaliatory attacks, explosion sounds were heard in the morning, and air defense systems were activated. Following the attacks, hotels and roads were largely deserted. It was reported that some emirs moved to safe areas, while authorities called on tourists not to leave the country.
US-ISRAEL ATTACKS ON IRAN
Israel and the USA launched a military attack on Iran on February 28 while negotiations were ongoing between the Tehran and Washington administrations.
Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in several regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, where US bases are located, in addition to Israel.
In the US-Israel attacks, Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, along with many high-ranking officials, was killed.
The Iranian Red Crescent announced that 201 people lost their lives and 747 were injured in the bombings targeting the country.
WHO IS FERIT ŞAHENK?
Born on March 18, 1964, Ferit Faik Şahenk is the chairman of Doğuş Group. His personal fortune is estimated to be 2.4 billion dollars as of 2024. He was born in Ankara on March 18, 1964. His father is businessman Ayhan Şahenk from Niğde, and his mother is Deniz Şahenk. After graduating from Boston College in 1987 with a degree in marketing and human resources, he founded Garanti Securities Company in 1991. He completed his post-graduate education with the Owner/President management program at Harvard University. In 1988, he interned in banking at Manufacturers Hannover.
He served as the chairman of the board of Doğuş Automotive Group from 1990 to 1997. Following the death of his father Ayhan Şahenk on April 2, 2001, he took over the leadership of Doğuş Group.
Also a devoted supporter of Fenerbahçe, Şahenk has provided financial resources for many significant and expensive transfers made by Fenerbahçe Sports Club, as well as direct material support. He played a major role in Fenerbahçe's transfer of Moussa Sow in 2012, and the club published a thank-you notice to him. He became a congress member of Fenerbahçe SK on June 7, 1982, and was promoted to the high council membership in 2022, but he has not held any position in any Fenerbahçe administration nor has he run for the presidency of Fenerbahçe. Şahenk is also one of the founders and current managers of the 1907 Fenerbahçe Association, a legal entity formed by Fenerbahçe businessmen. In 2017, he was awarded the Légion d'honneur by France.
