In the context of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza, Danny Elgarat, brother of Israeli prisoner Itzik Elgarat, whose body was handed over, stated that Israelis will "prosecute Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu for the crimes he committed against his people," calling on all segments of society to join the "uprising" they have initiated for the government's resignation.
According to a report by The Times of Israel, relatives of Israeli prisoners in the Gaza Strip and thousands of people gathered around the Ministry of Defense building in Tel Aviv, demanding the continuation of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement with Hamas and the resignation of the government.
CALL FOR UPRISING FROM ISRAELI PRISONER'S FAMILY
Speaking to the demonstrators here, Elgarat said, "Netanyahu, we will prosecute you for the crimes you committed against your people." Elgarat stated that they have taken action to overthrow the government led by Netanyahu, which they accuse of abandoning Israeli prisoners to their fate, saying, "What you see here today is an uprising."
Calling on all segments of society to join the "uprising," Elgarat said, "Lower the shutters of all shopping malls, banks, and technology companies. Come and save the country. The fate of the country is tied to the lives of the prisoners."
NETANYAHU ACCUSED OF DELAYING CEASEFIRE NEGOTIATIONS
Meirav Angrest Rahamim, aunt of Matan Angrest, one of the soldiers who should be released in the second phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza, stated that Netanyahu treated his nephew as a "third-class citizen abandoned under captivity."
Rahamim accused Netanyahu and his government of "trying to initiate the next phase of the war" instead of the second phase of the signed agreement.
Relatives of Israeli prisoners accuse Netanyahu of sabotaging the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement in Gaza and deliberately delaying the initiation of second-phase negotiations.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Hamas announced on March 14 that it accepted the proposal negotiated in Doha, stating that it would hand over one living and four deceased American-Israeli citizens held as prisoners in Gaza.
Israel had evaluated Hamas's positive response to the proposal presented by the mediating countries for the ceasefire as a "psychological war."
Hamas wants to negotiate the second phase, which will ensure a permanent ceasefire and the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, according to the three-phase ceasefire that the parties have agreed upon. Israel, on the other hand, demands an extension of the first phase and the release of more Israeli prisoners from the Gaza Strip.
The first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, which came into effect on January 19 in Gaza, lasted 42 days and ended on March 2. On March 2, Israel halted the entry of all humanitarian aid materials into the Gaza Strip and cut off electricity supply to the Gaza Strip on March 9.
