In an investigation into allegations of illegal cannabis cultivation against CHP District Chairman Seyit Akdağ and his son Zülfikar Akdağ in the Çüngüş district of Diyarbakır, an operation was carried out based on evidence obtained from trail camera footage. Unlicensed weapons were seized at the home and vehicle, while 10 cannabis plants and 14 seedbeds were found in the forested area. After providing their statements, the father and son were released under judicial control with conditions of "a ban on traveling abroad" and "reporting to designated locations."

Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Çüngüş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, action was taken based on intelligence information during the public order and illegal cultivation prevention efforts of the Çüngüş District Gendarmerie Command.

Following the approval of the Çüngüş District Governorate, tracking through camera traps placed in the forested area of the Kurtini locality in Elyos District revealed traces and evidence indicating that illegal cannabis cultivation was carried out in the region, and the cultivated area was irrigated and maintained.

Image analysis assessed that these activities were carried out by Seyit Akdağ, the CHP Çüngüş District Chairman, who was reported to be engaged in beekeeping in the area, and his son Zülfikar Akdağ.

WEAPONS FOUND IN HOME AND VEHICLE, CANNABIS IN FORESTED AREA

As part of the investigation, a search was conducted at the suspects' home and vehicle in line with the search warrant from the Çüngüş Criminal Court of Peace.

During the searches, 1 unlicensed Astra brand pistol of 7.65 mm caliber, 1 unlicensed hunting rifle, 38 cartridges, and 2 magazines were seized.

Inspections in the forested area revealed 10 cannabis plants and 14 seed beds. Additionally, 3 bags, believed to have been hung on trees to easily locate the illegal cultivation area, and 4 water containers hidden among the grass were confiscated for criminal investigation. The suspects were taken into custody, and legal proceedings were initiated.

FATHER BLAMES SON

In his statement to the prosecutor's office, Seyit Akdağ said that his son planted the cannabis plants and that he had no involvement in the incident. He stated that the unlicensed pistol seized from his home was left to him by his father, who died about 20 years ago, and that he never took the weapon out of the house and voluntarily handed it over to law enforcement during the search.

Zülfikar Akdağ, in his statement to the prosecutor's office, stated that he planted the cannabis for his own personal use and that his father had no connection with the cultivation activities.

JUDICIAL CONTROL FOR BOTH SUSPECTS

Considering the nature of the seized weapons and ammunition and the lack of evidence that Seyit Akdağ carried the weapon, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested judicial control measures in the form of a "ban on traveling abroad" and "obligation to report to designated places."

For Zülfikar Akdağ, considering the statement that the 10 seized cannabis plants were planted for personal use, not for trade, and the existing evidence in the file, the same judicial control measures were requested.

The Çüngüş Criminal Court of Peace decided to impose judicial control on both suspects in the form of a "ban on traveling abroad" and "obligation to report to designated places."
