For Gökhan Eller, who killed his wife Seda Eller during their divorce process, the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment requesting aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional murder of a spouse.' The first hearing of the case was held today at the Manisa 4th High Criminal Court.

ARRESTED ON SEPTEMBER 24

Gökhan Eller, who worked at Yunusemre Municipality, and beauty salon operator Selda Eller decided to divorce by mutual agreement. While waiting for a court hearing date, on September 23, Selda Eller went to the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, stating that she had been subjected to violence, and obtained a restraining order against her husband. While the decision was communicated to Gökhan Eller by the police, it is alleged that Selda Eller called her husband and told him to come home and collect his belongings. Gökhan Eller went to their home in the Güzelyurt neighborhood and, after a dispute, strangled Selda Eller, the mother of his two children, with a piece of cloth he had in his hand. Gökhan Eller then went to the police station, confessed to killing his wife, and surrendered. After the procedures at the police station, Gökhan Eller was arrested on September 24.

"WE HAD A BEAUTIFUL MARRIAGE"

The indictment prepared by the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested aggravated life imprisonment for Gökhan Eller for the crime of 'intentional murder of a spouse.' The first hearing of the case was held today at the Manisa 4th High Criminal Court. The father of the deceased Selda Eller, Mustafa Ferhat Durmaz (66), mother Zehra Can Şahin (62), brother Kemal Durmaz (42), and the family's lawyer Ali Arslan attended the hearing. The defendant Gökhan Eller was also present in the courtroom. In his statement during the hearing, Gökhan Eller explained that they had divorced in 2018 by making a protocol due to his wife's frequent contact with people he did not want her to associate with, saying, "We met in 2001, got married in 2002. We had a beautiful marriage. In 2004, my wife received a phone call. She answered it saying, 'Hello, my love.' That was where our first fight started. In 2009, I caught her messaging someone. We were fighting frequently due to the messages and calls she received. She was befriending people I did not want her to associate with. In 2018, we decided to divorce, made a protocol, and divorced."

"WE DECIDED TO MARRY AGAIN"

Gökhan Eller stated that he reconciled with his wife and remarried in 2019, saying, "In 2019, we bought an apartment in the Güzelyurt neighborhood. Later, my ex-wife Selda called and said, 'The children are asking for you, they want you to come.' This is how we started seeing each other again. We decided to marry again. As a condition of marriage, she wanted the house I bought in Güzelyurt to be in her name. I accepted and put the house in Selda's name. Then I learned that my wife was cheating on me again. A woman named Arzu said, 'Your wife is cheating on you with my husband,' and showed me the messages between my wife and her husband. I turned a blind eye to the infidelities for the sake of my children. In August 2022, we decided to divorce and made a protocol. I said I would give 20% of the house in Güzelyurt. Later, this share increased to 40%. I put the protocol in front of my wife, and we signed it. She took all the belongings. She said, 'I don't want the children; let them stay with you.' We initiated the divorce process, and a date was set."

"I STRANGLED HER WITH MY SON'S PANTS"

Gökhan Eller stated that he learned his wife had obtained a restraining order against him, saying, "I wondered why she got a restraining order when there was no problem. Later, Selda called me and said, 'Come quickly and take your things.' When I arrived home, she greeted me by saying, 'Did you come, you bastard?' She said, 'Take your things and get lost.' While I was gathering my belongings, she was throwing insults at me. She said, 'I will take everything from you, I don't want to breathe the same air as you.' She said, 'I will sleep with Taner in this house.' I went to the children's room. Showing a photo of me with a friend named Kamil, she said, 'I will be with Kamil in your bed.' Despite being cheated on, I remarried because I loved my wife and children. I started to strangle Selda with my son's pants. It lasted 3-4 seconds. Then she fell to the ground. When Selda fell, blood was coming from her nose and mouth. I called my friend police officer A. K. and said, 'Bro, I strangled Selda. She was alive when I left the house. Quickly send an ambulance; I am going to Barbaros Police Station.' I went to the station with A. K."

In response to a question about why his wife's phone was not found, Gökhan Eller said, "My wife's phone could not be found. I remember giving it to the police station. I was surprised when my lawyer said the phone was missing. I took the phone when I left the house. I had no intention of destroying evidence. I do not know if any sharing was made from my wife's phone. I went home that night because my wife called me. After the incident, I called my mother. There were people who called me, but I did not answer."

"TWO DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, HE SAID HE WOULD KILL MY DAUGHTER"

Speaking in court, Selda Eller’s father Mustafa Ferhat Durmaz said, "Two days before the incident, Gökhan and my little grandson came to visit me. When I offered my grandson 100 TL as pocket money, he hesitated and did not take it. At that moment, there was a program about a woman murder on TV. Gökhan turned to us and said, 'Love your grandchild for the last time. You will miss both your grandchild and your daughter Selda. Our end will be like this too.' I want him to receive the heaviest sentence," he said.

His lawyer Ali Arslan also stated, "The defendant thinks he will receive a lighter sentence by hiding behind the honor case for the murder he committed. What the defendant did before and after the murder clearly shows that he planned the murder. We want the defendant to be punished in the heaviest way for the crime of 'intentional murder with premeditation' without any reductions."

The hearing was adjourned to February 18 for the collection of evidence and examination of HTS records after the witnesses were heard.

"HE KILLED MY ONLY DAUGHTER"

After the hearing, Selda's mother Zehra Can Şahin, who could not hold back her tears in a statement made in front of the courthouse, said, "He killed my only daughter. I want my daughter to rot in prison just as she has rotted away." Father Mustafa Ferhat Durmaz also said, "I want him to never see the light of day in this world or the hereafter."
