In Guerrero state, which is most affected by drug trafficking in the country, drug cartels have killed dozens of politicians.

The chilling event took place in Chilpancingo, Mexico. Mayor Alejandro Arcos was found dead just six days after taking office. The image of Arcos's severed head left on top of a car shocked many.

Mayor Alejandro Arcos of Chilpancingo, a city in Guerrero state, had promised to fight against drug trafficking and had just taken office last week after the elections. The newly elected Mayor Arcos was murdered just six days after assuming his duties. The state prosecutor's office did not provide details regarding the investigation or suspects. In Arcos's last social media posts, it was seen that he had started working immediately after taking office and was involved in relief efforts following Hurricane John, which struck the country last month.

Three days ago, Francisco Tapia, who was appointed as the secretary of the city administration, was also murdered. In Guerrero state, which is most affected by drug trafficking in the country, drug cartels have killed dozens of politicians.

Guerrero State Governor Evelyn Salgado stated in her remarks on the matter, "We mourn due to a murder that fills us with anger." Mexican senator Alejandro Moreno expressed, "Arcos and Tapia were young and honest politicians who worked for their communities."

Before the elections scheduled for June 2 in Mexico, at least six public official candidates were killed in the state. Since the government deployed the military to combat drug trafficking in 2006, more than 450,000 people have been killed across Mexico, and tens of thousands have gone missing.
