SUPPORT FOR LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS
The citizenship salary, which stands out as a new title in social support policies in Turkey, remains on the agenda as an income complementing model aimed at preserving the purchasing power of low-income households. The regulation is based on household-based income measurement and aims to consolidate existing social aids under a single roof.
INCOME SUPPORT WILL BE PROVIDED TO RETIREES
This new system is expected to significantly benefit retirees, while the increasing elderly population and the issues faced by this group will be addressed within the model.
WHEN WILL THE CITIZENSHIP SALARY START?
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated during the discussions of the 2026 Central Government Budget Law in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey that the Income Complementing Family Support System will be piloted in some provinces next year. Yılmaz emphasized that the model is aimed to be implemented throughout Turkey by 2027. According to claims circulating in the corridors, it is stated that the implementation will start in pilot provinces in June.
SUPPORT MODEL BASED ON HOUSEHOLD INCOME
Habertürk writer Ahmet Kıvanç states that the new application will be shaped through the 'need criteria'. The need criteria refer to the concept that if the net income per person in the household is less than one-third of the net minimum wage, the household is considered to be in need. Kıvanç expressed that in this system, not everyone will receive an equal amount of payment, but instead, the household income will be complemented to a certain ratio.
Regular financial support will be provided to families meeting the mentioned criteria with the citizenship salary. According to Show TV news; those receiving the lowest pension will also be able to benefit from this salary.
WHICH PROVINCES WILL IT START IN?
The pilot provinces where the citizenship salary will start have not yet been announced. It is stated that the implementation may begin in earthquake-affected areas such as Hatay, Adıyaman, and Kahramanmaraş.
