Halit Altun, a Turkish citizen and father of four living in Belgium, is alleged to have been shot and killed by police after an argument broke out at a park where he had taken his children. Altun's uncle claimed that his nephew was handcuffed after being shot and that the ambulance arrived approximately 40 minutes later, requesting help from Turkish authorities to shed light on the incident.

Halit Altun, who went to a park with his 4 children in Eupen, Belgium, was shot and killed by police. The family is asking Turkish authorities for help in shedding light on the incident.

According to reports, the incident occurred last Sunday in Eupen, Belgium. Halit Altun (42), a father of 4 who had been living in Belgium for about 15 years and working as a worker in a cable factory, went to the park with his children Cebril (14), Yasin (13), Kamil (12), and Şehmuz (11). There, a dispute broke out between Altun's children and a group allegedly of Ukrainian origin. It is claimed that when the argument escalated, Altun intervened to protect his children, and police officers who arrived at the scene shot Altun. It is alleged that Altun, who fell to the ground wounded, was handcuffed, taken to the hospital by ambulance about 40 minutes later, and died there.

"HE TRIED TO REACT TO PROTECT HIS CHILDREN"

Altun's uncle Cihad Öğüşlü, who lives in Mersin, said the incident started with a small argument among the children, stating, "My nephew wanted to take his children to the park. While at the park, they encountered a group of Ukrainians. There was a minor argument among the children. After the argument, a few people gathered. We think they were all drunk. They started attacking my nephew and his children. My nephew also tried to react to them to protect his children, and the incident escalated."

"THEY HANDCUFFED HIM AFTER HE FELL TO THE GROUND"

Öğüşlü, claiming that his nephew was shot after the police arrived at the scene, said, "The police officers who arrived started shooting at my nephew without asking anything. My nephew fell to the ground. When he fell, they shot again. Then they handcuffed my nephew. They kept him there for at least 40 minutes; no ambulance came. Later, they took him to the hospital, but my nephew had already died."

Öğüşlü also claimed that a search was conducted at Altun's home after the incident and argued that no criminal evidence was found during the search.

"THEIR FATHER WAS KILLED BEFORE THEIR EYES"

Noting that his nephew's 4 children were in the park during the incident, Öğüşlü stated, "My nephew was killed only to protect his children. We ask for help from the Republic of Türkiye. We want it not to drop this matter. We also trust the Belgian government and expect the incident to be clarified. He has 4 children; their father was killed before their eyes. We want the children to receive psychological support. We still think they are under threat."

"POLICE TOOK THE PHONES OF THOSE TAKING VIDEOS"

Öğüşlü stated that some Turkish citizens recorded the events with their mobile phones during the incident, saying, "Turkish citizens there filmed the incident. According to reports, the police intervened with those filming and took their phones. We learned that some had their phones broken, and others had theirs taken away. Some photos saved by one of our friends reached us."

It was learned that Altun's funeral will be buried tomorrow at Akbelen Cemetery. The family and relatives demanded that the incident be fully clarified and that necessary legal actions be taken against those responsible.
