In the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa, 46 people, including former mayor Şeref Albayrak, who were detained in an operation on charges of corruption related to the previous municipal administration, have been referred to the courthouse.

49 PEOPLE DETAINED

Under the coordination of the Birecik Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch launched an investigation into allegations of bid rigging in the municipality between 2019 and 2024. Within the scope of the investigation, a total of 49 suspects, including former mayor Şeref Albayrak, as well as municipal council members and personnel working in various units, were detained. After undergoing health checks, the suspects were taken to the police station for questioning.

OPERATIONS CONTINUE TO CAPTURE ONE FUGITIVE

Following their procedures at the police station, 3 of the suspects were released after giving statements, while 46 suspects were taken to Mehmet Akif İnan Training and Research Hospital. After health checks, the suspects were referred to the Birecik Courthouse under extensive security measures. Some citizens gathered around the courthouse showed reactions to the suspects.

As the suspects' procedures at the courthouse continue, it was reported that operations are ongoing to capture one fugitive within the scope of the investigation.
