Former Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan and her father Erol Erkan have been reported to prosecutors by the managers of a hotel and holiday resort in Bodrum. The complainants alleged that Erkan threatened them, saying, 'I will become the Minister of Finance, I will become the Minister of Interior, I will have you fired and deported' and 'Thank God my father is asleep, otherwise he would have pulled out his gun and shot you all.'
A criminal complaint was filed with the prosecutor's office by the managers of a hotel and holiday resort in Bodrum against former Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan and her father Erol Erkan. While the facility managers alleged that the Erkan family subjected employees and customers to mobbing, the serious threats mentioned in the petition drew attention.
ALLEGATION: "I WILL BE A MINISTER, I WILL HAVE YOU DISMISSED"
The application to the Bodrum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office was made by İlker Ali Şen, General Manager of Swissotel Resort Bodrum Beach Hotel, and Ertuğrul Kara, Manager of Çağdaş Turgutreis Holiday Homes Site. According to the news from Ekonomim, one of the complainants, İlker Ali Şen, claimed that during an incident involving hotel employees, Hafize Gaye Erkan threatened him by abusing her authority. According to Şen's allegations, Erkan used the words "I will be the Minister of Finance, I will be the Minister of Interior, I will have you dismissed and fired" towards the staff.
Holiday site manager Ertuğrul Kara stated that he had a face-to-face meeting with Erkan regarding violations in common areas and mobbing allegations. Kara alleged that during this meeting, Erkan threatened him by saying, "Thank God my father is asleep, otherwise he would have pulled out his gun and shot you all; I will have you thrown in jail."
ALLEGATIONS OF CAMERAS WITH FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEMS AND FILMING CUSTOMERS
The petition submitted to the prosecutor's office included many details indicating that the Erkan family violated the common living rules within the hotel and the site. It was alleged that cameras with facial recognition systems were installed without permission in common areas, and various signs were put up.
The petition also claimed that hotel customers were filmed with phones without their consent, guests and pets were disturbed, and notes were left on sun loungers. Complaints that facility employees were forced to work on the family's personal errands were also included in the file, and the managers argued that all these actions damaged the facility's commercial reputation among tourists and customers. The parties requested legal action to be initiated on the grounds of disturbing peace and tranquility.
NOTICE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN SENT FOR THE 1.3 MILLION EURO VILLA
It emerged that Hafize Gaye Erkan, who served as the Central Bank Governor between June 9, 2023, and February 3, 2024, had previously been in conflict with the management over Villa No. 1, which she purchased from the said holiday site for 1.3 million euros.
In the notice previously sent to Erkan by the site management, it was emphasized that her actions made communal living unbearable for other unit owners, and the following warnings were made:
"We hereby notify you that if your actions, which render communal living unbearable for other unit owners, continue and the necessary obligations are not complied with, all legal rights and remedies available to the client site management will be pursued, including filing a lawsuit for the transfer of ownership of your independent unit under Article 25 of Law No. 634 on Condominium Ownership; and it will be requested that the litigation costs and attorney fees arising in this context be charged to you."
