In the Narin Güran murder case, the Court of Cassation overturned the 4 years and 6 months prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar, ruling that the act should be evaluated as "aiding intentional murder." Following this decision, Bahtiyar will be retried on more serious charges; the defendant, who remains in custody, will appear before the judge tomorrow.

A new process is beginning in the case regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır. Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the ruling, the detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar will be retried.

Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding Narin Güran's lifeless body in the Eğertutmaz Stream, had previously been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence." However, the Supreme Court ruled that this act should be evaluated within the scope of "aiding in qualified intentional murder," thereby overturning the decision.

NEW ACCUSATION, POSSIBILITY OF HEAVIER SENTENCE

With the Supreme Court's decision to overturn, the nature of the crime Bahtiyar is being tried for has changed. In this context, the case file has been sent to the 8th Heavy Criminal Court of Diyarbakır. The court decided to continue the defendant's detention, ruling that judicial control measures would be insufficient.

Detained defendant Nevzat Bahtiyar will appear before the judge again on April 6.

PENALTIES GIVEN TO THE FAMILY HAVE BEEN UPHELD

In the case, the aggravated life sentences previously given to mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran for the crime of "intentional murder of a child in complicity" had been upheld by the Supreme Court.

The lifeless body of Narin Güran, who went missing in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on August 21, 2024, was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 8. The incident had caused a significant stir in Turkey's agenda.
