The heavy rain that intensified in Hatay during the night hours caused a disaster. While one person lost their life in a landslide in Antakya, another person died in Defne when a vehicle that went out of control fell into a riverbed. Thus, the death toll in the disaster rose to 2.
The heavy rain that was effective in Hatay during the night hours caused great damage, especially in the Antakya, Defne, and Samandağ districts. While floods occurred in many neighborhoods, roads collapsed and transportation came to a standstill.
A house on a slope in Antakya's Hacı Ömer Alpagot Neighborhood collapsed toward the road after heavy rainfall. Of the 4 people trapped under the debris, 3 were rescued alive by teams, while the lifeless body of 1 person was found.
OVERHEAD BRIDGE COLLAPSES, ONE PERSON LOSES THEIR LIFE
In the vicinity of Defne's Subaşı Bridge, a vehicle went out of control and fell into a streambed due to the collapse of an overhead bridge, resulting in the death of one person.
People stranded in Defne district's Değirmenyolu neighborhood were rescued by firefighting teams affiliated with the Hatay Metropolitan Municipality.
A collapse also occurred in a section of the Karaçay Bridge on the Antakya-Samandağ ring road. Traffic is being directed through the intact part of the bridge. Due to the rain affecting the entire city, many main arteries were also closed to traffic.
ONE-DAY BREAK IN EDUCATION IN SAMANDAĞ
In the city, where teams from the State Hydraulic Works, the Regional Directorate of Highways, and the Metropolitan Municipality continue evacuation and cleaning work on the roads, schools in the Samandağ district have been suspended for one day.
No official statement has yet been made by authorities in the city regarding the disaster experienced so far.
