The budget marathon that started in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) continues with discussions on the 2025 budgets of the Presidency and its affiliated institutions in the General Assembly. "DID THEY ALSO UNCOVER YOUR HEAD, DID THEY MAKE YOU TAKE OFF YOUR HEADSCARF?"During the discussions, a notable provocation was made towards AK Party Istanbul Deputy Nilhan Ayan, who spoke on behalf of her party. A CHP deputy threw a remark at Ayan, who was talking about the past headscarf issue, saying, "Did they also uncover your head, did they make you take off your headscarf?" "I AM PROUD OF OUR DEPUTIES WITH HEADSCARVES"Ayan responded to this provocation by saying, "You will get used to this, don't worry, we will get you used to it. When it comes to words, you always talk about culture, art, and progress, but you turn away our girls and women from the doors of the universities they have earned, and you call this modernity. Today, I look at our Assembly, and I am proud of our deputies with headscarves in our General Assembly." AK PARTY'S USTA: I CONDEMN THIS WITH DISGRACEAK Party Group Deputy Chair Leyla Şahin Usta also responded to the provocation from the CHP benches. Usta said, "There can be nothing more humiliating than dealing with women's headscarves and belittling the struggle we have shown by making such a remark. This is absolutely unacceptable. I condemn you with disgrace for this statement. This is a dignified struggle. I ask you to apologize to all the women present here and to ensure that such statements are not heard again in this General Assembly." CHP'S EMIR: WE ARE EXTREMELY PLEASED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVEDCHP Group Deputy Chair Murat Emir, who spoke from his seat, defended his party. Emir said, "We listened carefully to the speaker. There are accusations in it that we will never accept, that do not belong to us. In fact, there are expressions that have become aggressive at times. Therefore, receiving a reaction is understandable to a certain extent. But fortunately, there has not been an issue called headscarf in Turkey's agenda for many years. We are extremely pleased that this issue has been resolved. You also know very well that there are members of the Republican People's Party among those who have fought for this to end."
