MESSAGE FROM CEO BRIAN NICCOL SHARED
Starbucks shared a message from its CEO Brian Niccol in a notification to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In his message, Niccol stated that they shared the plan to revitalize the company last September, expressing satisfaction with the progress made despite having more work to do.
Pointing out that the initial efforts focused on branches in the U.S. and Canada, Niccol explained that they also needed to examine the role, structure, and size of support teams worldwide while trying to transform the business globally.
Niccol mentioned that there are opportunities to work more efficiently, stating, "We must ensure that all of our efforts have a clear owner, that we know who can make decisions, and who is responsible for achieving the goals. This will help us move faster."
"UNFORTUNATELY, WE WILL HAVE TO LAY OFF EMPLOYEES"
Noting that the organization and working style of support teams need to be meaningfully changed, Niccol used the following expressions:
"Unfortunately, I foresee that we will have to lay off employees moving forward and reduce our support teams. This work will not affect our in-store teams or the investments we make in store hours. We will announce the changes at the beginning of March."
