The President of the EU also spoke to the British newspaper Telegraph. In his statements criticizing NATO, Trump revealed that he is seriously considering withdrawing the US from NATO. Trump said, “I have always known that NATO is a paper tiger.”

Trump noted that the issue of withdrawal is now "beyond re-evaluation" and described the military alliance as a "paper tiger." Joining Trump, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the White House no longer sees Europe as a reliable partner and criticized the alliance for not granting access to military bases, describing NATO as a "one-way street," and said that this relationship should be re-evaluated when the conflict in Iran is over.
Trump reacted to NATO allies' reluctance regarding the security of the Strait of Hormuz, which is critical for oil supply, and expressed that in crises like Ukraine, the US is automatically on the side of its allies but does not receive a return.
US President Trump stated that he supports Rubio's comments, "If NATO is only going to protect us when Europe is attacked, but they are not going to grant us base rights, this is a difficult arrangement to maintain."

French military officials responded to US President Trump's "exit from NATO" remarks. An official stated that NATO is a military alliance concerned with the security of Europe and the Atlantic region and that "the purpose of NATO is not to conduct a Hormuz Strait operation that would violate international law."
