The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office accepted the allegations circulating on social media as a tip-off during the investigation process regarding Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım and initiated an investigation against A.A., who is claimed to have received a salary despite not working at Bornova Municipality, and related municipal officials.

An investigation has been initiated regarding the Uşak Municipality, following allegations that an individual received a salary without actually working at the Bornova Municipality. The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation against the relevant municipal officials, considering social media posts as a tip-off.

In coordination with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a new development has occurred following the arrest and suspension of Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım as part of an operation targeting the CHP-led Uşak Municipality for 'bribery, extortion, and interference in tenders'. The İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has started to follow up on allegations raised on social media platforms that an individual connected to the Uşak Mayor was hired by the Bornova Municipality. Investigations revealed that although the suspect appeared on the municipal payroll, they did not attend work.

ALLEGATION OF IRREGULAR SALARY

Posts in open sources indicated that the suspect received regular salary payments without performing any duties at the Bornova Municipality. Technical studies conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office determined that this situation caused public harm. As a result of identity verification studies conducted regarding the incident, a suspect named A.A. was identified.

INVESTIGATION EXPANDED

Based on the evidence obtained, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated legal proceedings against A.A. and officials of the Bornova Municipality connected to the incident. It was stated that an investigation was launched against the suspects for 'qualified fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations and forgery in official documents'. The investigation is being conducted meticulously through the contact points with the Uşak Municipality.

STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In a statement made by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the following expressions were included:

"Following the developments regarding the detention of Uşak Mayor Ö.Y. by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in connection with the investigation into 'Bribery, Extortion, and Interference in Tenders', various posts have been identified on social media platforms by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Investigations revealed that an individual allegedly related to the Uşak Mayor was hired by the Bornova Municipality and received a salary from the municipality despite not performing any duties. These posts have been accepted as tips, and as a result of the investigations, the identity of the relevant individual has been determined. An immediate investigation has been initiated by our İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the crime of 'Qualified Fraud to the Detriment of Public Institutions and Organizations and Forgery in Official Documents' against the individual named A.A. and municipal officials connected to the matter. The investigation processes are being carried out meticulously, and developments will be shared with the public as well."

HE WAS SUSPENDED FROM OFFICE

The Ministry of Interior announced that Özkan Yalım, who was arrested for "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," "interfering in the tenders of public institutions or organizations," and "extorting and receiving bribes by coercion," has been suspended from his position.
