After the arrest and dismissal of Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel met with deputies at the Istanbul Provincial Presidency. Speaking after the meeting, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır stated, "We have made some decisions together with our friends. We will take more general, more severe, and more important steps. This process will be a process of taking over the power. Starting from Monday, we will all see it together as we live through it."
"WE WILL TAKE MORE GENERAL AND SEVERE STEPS"
Başarır, who stated that there has been complete lawlessness from detention procedures to arrest decisions, said the following:
"Lawlessness and mobbing pressure continue. First, a prison. Then the other Paşakapısı Prison. The room in Paşakapısı Prison is being changed. In the middle of the night, when our mayor is about to sleep, they say, 'We changed our mind, we are taking you from here to Silivri.' Look, Metris, Paşakapısı, Silivri. Forget about the mayor, there is no other citizen in Turkey experiencing this, but in Turkey, the law, prisons, justice - prisons are under the Ministry of Justice - are in this situation. We are ashamed of this. We are really sad about what we have experienced; Turkey is sad. We have made some decisions together with our friends. There will be not just one action, but multiple actions during this process. It will be a process with more than one rally, not just one rally. We will take more general, more severe, and more important steps. This process will be a process of taking over the power. Once again, as our Chairman said, we emphasize this. Today, we had a very productive meeting with our deputies. The Parliament will not be in session next week. Therefore, it was valuable for them to be in Istanbul."
Responding to Erdoğan's statements regarding CHP's red card protest, "I have never seen a red card in my 20 years of football career," Başarır said, "I wish we could check the VAR records."
"WE WILL SEE IT TOGETHER STARTING FROM MONDAY"
During the meeting, Başarır also mentioned that the poverty experienced by millions of retirees, workers, and civil servants was discussed, stating, "Millions of people are living below the hunger line. That’s why we presented this process as a whole. We filled all our actions within it and said that the steps we will take from now on will be a process of taking over the power. Therefore, we will actually see these together starting from Monday."
