Following the update of the deposit participation fee in Ankara, the Ministry of Trade has launched an inspection against price increases exceeding the cost increase for beverages in plastic, glass, and metal packaging.
PRICE INCREASES EXCEEDING COSTS
In a written statement from the Ministry of Trade, it was noted that after the update of the deposit participation fee applied to beverages in plastic, glass, and metal packaging to support recycling and efficient use of resources, some producers and sellers have been observed to reflect increases on consumer prices exceeding the cost increase.
ADMINISTRATIVE PENALTIES WILL BE APPLIED
In this context, it was stated that the matter has been taken under review, and national and local markets as well as representatives of the relevant sector have been warned that price increases made beyond the cost increase will be considered unfair pricing.
The statement also noted that inspections have been initiated for producers, suppliers, and retail points regarding related beverage products, especially packaged water, and that any price increase that exceeds the cost increase and harms consumers will be considered within the scope of unfair pricing, and necessary administrative penalties will be applied.
LABELS WERE CHECKED ONE BY ONE
Following the ministry's statement, inspections on beverages in plastic, glass, and metal packaging increased in Ankara. Teams from the Ankara Provincial Trade Directorate conducted an inspection at a chain market in Çukurambar, Çankaya district. Officials examined the price labels of water and other beverages on the shelves one by one.
Documents showing the sales prices of the products over the last three months were also reviewed and noted. It was reported that evaluations regarding excessive price increases will be made by the Unfair Price Evaluation Board, and inspections will continue.
