The Israeli army continues its attacks on Lebanon despite the ceasefire that came into effect on April 17 and was extended by 45 days as of May 17.
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee announced on his account on the social media platform of the US-based company X that they had carried out an attack on a location in Lebanon.
CLAIM OF "MISSILE UNIT COMMANDER KILLED"
According to reports in the Lebanese press, a building in the Shuwaifat area was targeted in the Israeli attack.
The Israeli press alleged that the attack targeted Ali al-Husseini, the missile unit commander of Hezbollah's Imam Hussein Division. It was claimed that Husseini was killed in the attack, while Hezbollah has not yet issued a statement regarding the attack.
On May 6, the Israeli army also carried out an airstrike on the Dahieh area in Beirut, known as Hezbollah's stronghold.
ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON LEBANON AND THE CEASEFIRE
The Israeli army launched intense airstrikes on Lebanon on March 2 and occupied many towns in the south of the country.
During this period, the Lebanese government announced that the number of displaced people in the country had exceeded 1 million.
In a statement on April 24, US President Donald Trump announced that the 10-day temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, which came into effect on April 17, had been extended by three more weeks.
As a result of the third round of talks between Lebanon and Israel, mediated by the US, on May 14-15, it was decided to extend the ceasefire by 45 days as of May 17 and to hold a fourth round of talks in early June.
Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli army continues its attacks and home demolitions in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah carries out attacks on Israeli forces citing ceasefire violations.
