Details have emerged regarding the operation in which 31 people, including Izmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet, were detained. The investigation file includes allegations of irregularities in municipal tenders, familial ties between some companies and municipal officials, commissions taken from contracting firms, and that Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet's husband, Murat Hürriyet, influenced tender processes and personnel recruitments.
The details of the operation, in which 31 people including İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet were detained, have become clear. The investigation file includes allegations of irregularities in municipal tenders, family relationships between some companies and municipal officials, commissions taken from companies doing business, and that Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet's husband Murat Hürriyet was influential in tender processes and personnel recruitment.
DETAILS OF THE OPERATION REVEALED
Within the scope of the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, some tenders organized by the İzmit Municipality were scrutinized based on suspect statements, declarations of individuals benefiting from effective remorse provisions, and secret witness testimonies.
It was learned that the judicial process was initiated upon findings indicating irregularities in some tenders carried out by the municipality.
ALLEGATIONS IN THE INVESTIGATION FILE
According to the findings in the investigation file, it was alleged that companies winning the tenders and companies bidding for the tenders had family relationships with municipal officials, and money was taken under the name of commission from companies doing business with the municipality.
The file also claimed that İzmit Mayor Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet's husband Murat Hürriyet had a direct connection with tender processes, personnel recruitment, and position determinations.
SIMULTANEOUS OPERATION IN 5 PROVINCES
Based on these findings, upon the instruction of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a simultaneous operation was conducted in İzmit, Istanbul, Ankara, Antalya, and Kırıkkale. Within the scope of the operation, detention orders were issued for 31 suspects on charges of "establishing an organization to commit a crime," "bribery," and "rigging a tender."

WHO IS FATMA KAPLAN HÜRRİYET?
Fatma Kaplan Hürriyet was born on August 20, 1982, in Kocaeli. After graduating from Kocaeli University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism, Hürriyet worked in local media for a while, then studied law and began her career as a lawyer. Starting her political life in the Republican People's Party, Hürriyet was elected as a CHP Kocaeli deputy in the 2015 general elections and entered the Turkish Grand National Assembly. During her tenure as a deputy, she worked on women's rights, child abuse, press freedom, and local governments. Elected as İzmit Mayor in the March 31, 2019 local elections, Hürriyet won again in the 2024 local elections and began her second term. She currently continues her duty as İzmit Mayor.
