In the case of the death of university student Ayşe Tokyaz in Istanbul, Cemil Koç, who was arrested, is being tried for the crime of 'intentional murder against a woman' regarding the incident in which Ejegül Ovezova, a Turkmen national living with him in Diyarbakır, fell from the 8th floor and died. An expert report has been prepared in the case. The report evaluates that the fractures in Ovezova's facial area may have resulted from assault prior to the fall, while stating that the defendant's statements have a low degree of credibility and that there were numerous blood stains in the house.

After being murdered in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, the body of university student Ayşe Tokyaz was found in a suitcase by the roadside in Eyüpsultan on July 13, 2025. Cemil Koç, who was taken into custody in connection with the murder, was arrested by the Duty Magistrate for the crime of 'Intentional Murder', and six others who assisted him were also arrested for the crime of 'Aiding Intentional Murder'. While the investigation is ongoing, it was determined that Cemil Koç is also a suspect in the death of his cohabitant Ejegül Ovezova, who fell from the eighth floor of an apartment in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır on July 24, 2023.

THE DEFENDANT'S DNA WAS FOUND UNDER HER NAILS

In his statement in the indictment completed by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on July 4, 2025, regarding the death of Ejegül Ovezova, Cemil Koç stated that he was in the bathroom at the time of the incident, that he did not see Ovezova when he went to the living room after hearing a noise, and that he saw the woman lying face down on the floor when he went downstairs, thinking she might have committed suicide. The indictment included a report from the Forensic Medicine Institution, stating that the genetic profiles obtained from blood samples taken from under the nails were mixed and belonged to both Ejegül Ovezova and Cemil Koç. This situation indicated that there had been a struggle between them, and it was noted that sufficient suspicion had been obtained to open a public case against the suspect for the crime of 'Intentional Murder'.

REQUEST FOR AGGRAVATED LIFE IMPRISONMENT

The indictment stated that blood traces found on the quilt inside the washing machine and on the edge of the mattress in the living room were determined to belong to the victim, but due to the absence of any wounds or cuts on the victim's body, a direct link could not be established between the blood stains in the house and the death. However, it was expressed that when evaluated together with the DNA sample from under the nails, sufficient suspicion was formed that the suspect had killed the woman, and it was requested that Cemil Koç be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment under Article 82/1-f of the Turkish Penal Code for the crime of 'Intentional Murder against a Woman'.

"THE CREDIBILITY OF HIS STATEMENTS IS LOW"

In the expert report prepared at the request of the Diyarbakır 6th High Criminal Court, where the case is being heard, crime scene investigation photographs, criminal reports, and data from the Forensic Medicine Institution were evaluated together. The report stated that numerous blood stains were found in various locations within the residence, and it was determined that these stains belonged to the victim. It was noted that the defendant's explanation of the scratches on his body after the incident as 'cat scratches' was not consistent with the ordinary course of life. The report also stated that according to the Forensic Medicine Institution's assessment, Ejegül's death resulted from general bodily trauma leading to skull and facial fractures and internal bleeding, and that the fractures in the facial area might have occurred due to a blow before the fall. It was recorded that witness statements indicating a woman's scream was heard on the night of the incident increased suspicions regarding the manner of the incident. When all findings were evaluated together, it was concluded that the credibility of the statements made by the defendant Cemil Koç was low.
