The statement of Cemil Koç, a former police officer who killed his university student ex-girlfriend Ayşe Tokyaz and left her body in a suitcase by the roadside, shocked the court. Koç said, "Everyone only sees me as guilty, no one talks about what happened before. I will make my defense regarding the incident when all the files are presented to me. I believe the evidence is incomplete."

In the second hearing of the murder case of university student Ayşe Tokyaz, who was killed by former police officer Cemil Koç in Küçükçekmece and whose body was left by the roadside in a suitcase, the defendant Koç stated, "I will present my defense regarding the incident when all the files are presented to me. I believe the evidence is insufficient."

THE CASE OF AYŞE TOKYAZ MURDER CONTINUES

The trial of 9 defendants, including 4 in custody, continued regarding the murder of 22-year-old university student Ayşe Tokyaz, who was killed by former police officer Cemil Koç (38) on July 11, 2025, in Küçükçekmece, and whose body was placed in a suitcase and left by the roadside in Eyüpsultan. The hearing, held at the Küçükçekmece 2nd Heavy Criminal Court, was attended by the detained defendant Cemil Koç via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS).

The complainant's twin sister Esra and mother Halime Tokyaz, along with 4 detained defendants and the parties' lawyers, were also present in the courtroom. The complainant siblings Kadir and Kübra Tokyaz also connected to the hearing via SEGBİS. During the hearing, the files of police officers N.Ç. (44) and Z.B. (31), who were alleged to have shared Esra Tokyaz's statement given to the police one day after the incident with Cemil Koç, were merged with the murder case in the heavy criminal court. Thus, the number of defendants in the case increased to 11.

"THERE IS NO CONCRETE EVIDENCE"

Speaking at the hearing, detained defendant Cemil Koç said, "Firstly, the audio recordings shared by Esra on social media, titled 'I know your statement word for word,' were presented to the file in a cut form. I do not accept the evidence against me. The incident ended in such a way that I was found guilty, but there is no concrete evidence within the file."

"EVERYONE ONLY BELIEVES I AM GUILTY"

In response, the presiding judge said, "You requested other evidence to be presented, we investigated, it was notified, but you do not accept the file." Koç replied, "As Esra entered the courtroom, Cemil said to you, 'I have a surprise,' and puts the photo I took with Ayşe on the table. The incident ended badly, Ayşe died. Everyone only believes I am guilty; no one talks about what happened before. I will present my defense regarding the incident when all the files are presented to me. I believe the evidence is insufficient," he stated.

Detained defendant C.A., who is alleged to have assisted Cemil Koç in his actions, stated in his defense, "If I had the slightest involvement in this incident, I would accept my punishment. I did not do such a thing; it is against my conscience, I have nothing to do with it. I met with my friends to have coffee, that's why I have been detained for 2 months," he said. The defendants' lawyers stated that they believed Cemil Koç exercised his right to remain silent, and the trial should proceed in this direction.

"I DID NOT CALL FOR HELP BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD BELIEVE ME"

During the hearing, a member judge asked Cemil Koç, "You said you saw Ayşe dead; when did you realize Ayşe was dead?" The defendant Koç responded, "I was calling someone on the phone to ask for help; my psychology was confused at that moment. At that moment, her body started to bruise. I even tried to perform CPR. I did not call for help because I realized she had passed away. I did not call because I had experienced a similar situation before, and no one would believe me. Ayşe's nose was broken, but I did not break it. It must have been broken before the incident. I have a request from the Forensic Medicine Institution. The e-health data should be retrieved to show that this fracture occurred before death," he stated.

"I TRIED TO PERFORM CPR"

In response, the member judge asked the defendant, "The autopsy says brain hemorrhage; why did you perform CPR?" The defendant replied, "When foam came from her mouth and she was not breathing, I tried to perform CPR. We never used drugs together; we had a close moment, and when I felt it in her throat, she told me then," he said.

Defendant Koç stated that he thought no one would believe him, saying, "I did not check the trunk to see if there was blood or not. After the incident, I was feeling guilty; her mother was calling me, crying, 'my daughter.' I carried her down the stairs and laid her on the couch. The suitcase was open. I took Ayşe and put her inside the suitcase. I did not make any additional intervention. On the day of the incident, I pushed Ayşe a little, but I will explain later why I did that," he said.

DECISION TO CONTINUE DETENTION

Another detained defendant, Cemal Arslan, also stated that he would accept his punishment if he had the slightest fault in the incident, emphasizing that this incident was against his conscience. The public prosecutor, whose opinion was sought during the hearing, requested the continuation of the detention of the defendants, including Cemil Koç.

The court panel, announcing its interim decision, ruled for the continuation of the detention of 4 defendants, including detained defendant Cemil Koç. The panel decided to send the evidence in the file to Cemil Koç for examination and defense, and postponed the hearing to address the missing issues.
