Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 3,913 traffic accidents occurred during the Eid al-Adha holiday. Yerlikaya stated, "Fatal traffic accidents were much less frequent on highways where radar enforcement was applied at intervals of 30-35 km. On our highways with a speed limit of 140, we are grateful that there were no fatalities. Unfortunately, on highways with a speed limit of 130, 2 of our citizens lost their lives."

The Eid al-Adha holiday has passed. While traffic accidents occurred throughout the holiday, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made a statement regarding the issue on his social media account.



44 FATALITIES AND OVER 6,000 INJURED IN TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DURING THE HOLIDAY



Minister Yerlikaya stated that more than 3,000 traffic accidents occurred during the holiday and provided information about the controversial radar application. Minister Yerlikaya said: "During the Eid al-Adha holiday, 3,913 traffic accidents occurred. Unfortunately, 44 of our citizens lost their lives at the scene of these accidents; 6,370 of our citizens were injured.



The 44 citizens who lost their lives committed 54 separate traffic rule violations. Of these, 48.1% were speed violations, 18.5% were lane keeping and changing, 14.9% were right of way violations, 3.7% were turning rule violations, 1.8% were rear-end collisions, and 13 were other violations. Among the fatalities in traffic accidents during the Eid al-Adha holiday, 18 occurred within residential areas; 26 occurred outside residential areas.

During the Eid al-Adha holiday, fatal traffic accidents were much less frequent on highways where radar applications were implemented at intervals of 30-35 km. Details: On our highways with a speed limit of 140, thankfully, the death toll was "zero..." However, on highways with a speed limit of 130, unfortunately, 2 of our citizens lost their lives.



In areas where the radar application was less frequent: Unfortunately, we lost 22 citizens in places where the speed limit ranged from 50 to 80 km; and unfortunately, we lost 20 citizens in places where the speed limit ranged from 90 to 110 km.



3 ACTIONS TAKEN AGAINST THE DRIVER IN AN ACCIDENT THAT CLAIMED 5 LIVES



And unfortunately, of the 44 citizens who lost their lives, 14 were motorcyclists and passengers on motorcycles. In an accident in Izmir, where 5 of our citizens lost their lives, it was determined that the driver had been subjected to 3 actions regarding his license for 'driving under the influence'; therefore, it was found that the driver's license had been temporarily revoked on the date of the accident. We are examining each of the fatal traffic accidents that occurred during the Eid al-Adha holiday one by one. We will share the details with the public."
