Diyarbakir Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Dogan Hatun announced his resignation from his position within the scope of the "Withdrawal Principle." Hatun stated that he could not adequately meet the responsibilities expected of him by his party and the people, and that health issues also negatively affected his ability to continue his duties, adding that he will continue his struggle in different areas.

Announcing his departure from the post of Co-Mayor of Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality, which he has held for over two years after being elected with approximately 65 percent of the vote in the March 31, 2024 Local Elections, Doğan Hatun declared his resignation to the public.

"I COULD NOT MEET EXPECTATIONS AT THE DESIRED LEVEL"

In a statement made via social media, Hatun referred to the Local Governments Conference recently held by his party, touching on the evaluations and decisions made at this conference. Emphasizing the responsibilities brought by the "Peace and Democratic Society Process," Hatun stated that he could not fulfill his role at the expected level and offered the following self-criticism:

"I would like to openly express that, within the scope of my role as Co-Mayor of Amed Metropolitan Municipality for over two years, I have not been able to respond at the desired level to the fundamental responsibilities expected of me by my party and our people; that I have not shown sufficient productivity in terms of service delivery; and that I have not been able to fulfill the role and mission I undertook at the level I wished."

UNDERWENT ANGIOPLASTY THREE TIMES

In addition to his self-criticisms, Hatun noted that serious health problems he experienced were also decisive in making this decision, emphasizing that he suffered significant physical wear and tear. The Co-Mayor, who revealed that he underwent angioplasty three times during his term, recorded that his deteriorating health condition had become a major obstacle to effective participation in his work.

"WE DECIDED ON THE WITHDRAWAL PRINCIPLE AT THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT CONFERENCE"

Stating that he had submitted his resignation request some time ago to the relevant bodies of the party within the framework of the "Withdrawal Principle" adopted at the Local Governments Conference, and that this request was deemed appropriate by the party administration, Hatun emphasized that positions and offices are temporary.

Hatun concluded his public statement with the following words:

"For us, the fields of struggle of our party have never been limited to positions and offices. Therefore, today, while stepping down from this role, which I believe I have fallen short in and been inadequate, I sincerely believe that I will continue my struggle more strongly in other areas and contribute more to our people."
