The number of people traveling for family visits reached 18 million 680 thousand during the period covering January to June, while the total expenditure for these trips amounted to 68 billion 771 million 319 thousand lira.
During the same period, 24 million 410 thousand people residing in the country traveled. Domestic tourist travel expenditure was 148 billion 376 million 593 thousand lira. According to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), trips made for the purpose of visiting relatives ranked first in the holiday preferences of domestic tourists. 76.52% of those residing in the country traveled to visit their relatives. During the period covering January to June, the number of people traveling to visit relatives reached 18 million 680 thousand, while the expenditure for these trips was 68 billion 771 million 319 thousand lira.
According to the purpose of travel, visits to relatives were followed by 8 million 489 thousand trips for sightseeing, entertainment, and holiday accommodations. During this period, domestic tourists spent 60 billion 511 million 887 lira for sightseeing, entertainment, and holidays.
10 BILLION SPENT ON HEALTH TOURISM
The number of visits made for health needs during the period covering January to June was 1 million 178 thousand. A total of 10 billion 154 million 479 thousand lira was spent on these trips. Domestic tourists spent 2 billion 611 million 33 thousand lira on 349 thousand trips made for commercial relations and fairs. In 94 thousand trips made for cultural purposes, domestic tourists spent 535 million 576 thousand lira. When examining the expenditure made by domestic tourists before traveling, personal expenses such as clothing, medicine, bags, and cameras amounted to 884 million 780 thousand lira.
