Retired Faruk Gülcemal, who lives in Antalya, filed a criminal complaint after learning that a loan of 600,000 TL was taken out in his name after his phone froze following a click on a link on social media. Gülcemal stated that after clicking on a link on social media, his phone froze and did not turn on for 24 hours, saying, "The next day, I went to the phone repair shop, and I got the phone unlocked. Then I tried to access mobile banking to pay a bill, but I couldn't. I went to the bank branch and learned that a loan of 600,000 TL had been taken out in my name." Gülcemal, who reported that he has initiated legal proceedings, stated that he cannot pay this amount with his retirement salary and expressed that he is a victim.

"BANKS' SECURITY MEASURES ARE INSUFFICIENT"

Gülcemal's lawyer, Furkan Atmaca, drew attention to mobile banking fraud, stating that similar complaints are increasing. Atmaca said, "These types of transactions are usually carried out at night, within 20-25 minutes. All accounts are emptied, and loans are taken out. Banks' security measures are insufficient."

Atmaca emphasized that victims need to go to the prosecutor's office quickly, stating, "My first advice to citizens when they experience such a situation is to run to the prosecutor's office. Because only in this way can a block be placed on bank accounts. Additionally, it is possible to hold banks accountable by filing lawsuits in consumer courts," he said.

"YOUR DREAMS CAN BE DESTROYED IN ONE NIGHT"

Lawyer Atmaca stated that users should avoid third-party software installed on their phones. He mentioned that secure software should be used and additional security measures such as two-factor authentication should be implemented, saying, "Your dreams can be destroyed in one night, and your hopes can end."
