With the regulation published in the Official Gazette, drivers are prohibited from watching video or television broadcasts on display devices within their viewing and usage area while driving. The use of sound devices in a way that projects sound outside the vehicle and disturbs public peace and tranquility has also been included in the ban. Here are all the new rules that drivers need to follow in their vehicles...

The regulation on amendments to the Highway Traffic Regulation has been published in the Official Gazette.

With the regulation, the definitions of "imaging device" and "driver's field of view" were added to the Highway Traffic Regulation. Accordingly, devices that remain within the driver's monitoring and usage area and are used to watch television or video broadcasts while the vehicle is in motion are defined as "imaging devices."

PHONE HOLDER MAY BE INSTALLED ON THE WINDSHIELD

With the regulation, it is prohibited to keep accessories and items within the driver's field of view in a way that obstructs the driver's view of the road, pedestrian and vehicle movements, traffic signs, devices, and road markings. However, vehicle cameras and phone holders mounted on the windshield at a height not exceeding five centimeters from the top level of the steering wheel or dashboard will not be considered obstructive to visibility.

Drivers are prohibited from watching video or television broadcasts on imaging devices located within the monitoring and usage area while driving. Devices used for driving, parking, or navigation assistance, cameras and recording devices showing the interior and exterior of the vehicle, and devices related to vehicle control and system settings will not be considered within the scope of this prohibition when used for these purposes.

ADDITIONAL SPEAKERS IN VEHICLES PROHIBITED

The use of audio devices in vehicles in a manner that causes sound to escape outside the vehicle and disturbs public peace and comfort is prohibited. Additionally, except for areas specified by the vehicle manufacturer, it is prohibited to have or use additional speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers, and similar sound systems in vehicles. A maximum of one additional subwoofer up to 45 Hz and one amplifier up to 300 watts may be kept in the trunk of vehicles.

In M2 and M3 class vehicles used for commercial passenger transportation, individual audio and video devices may be kept, provided they are positioned so that drivers cannot watch them. However, these devices cannot be operated by drivers.

The regulation came into effect on the date of its publication.
