Emrah Ustaoğlu, who has been working as a motor mechanic in Düzce for 20 years, shared vital technical checks for drivers going on long journeys and a common major mistake made during travel. The mechanic noted that drivers pour water on rims and tires at rest stops and warned that this action causes irreversible damage.
Emrah Ustaoğlu, who has been a motor mechanic for 20 years in Düzce, provided information about the technical checks that should be performed before hitting the road and the details to pay attention to during travel.
Ustaoğlu stated that vehicle maintenance must never be neglected for a safe and trouble-free journey, emphasizing the importance of brake systems, coolant, and air conditioning maintenance.
"THIS SITUATION CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS"
Ustaoğlu stated that drivers going to holiday regions should entrust their vehicles' front suspension and brake checks to experts before setting out, and emphasized that water and oil levels should be full against the risk of engine overheating in hot weather. Ustaoğlu said, "Vehicles can overheat in hot weather. I recommend our drivers check their vehicles' water levels. The front suspensions and brake systems are very important. Sometimes brake pedals can be low; in that case, they must also check the brake hydraulic fluid for leaks, because it heats up during long journeys and leaks from somewhere. When there is a leak, brake slack occurs. This situation can cause accidents."
WARNING ABOUT NOT POURING WATER ON RIMS AND DISCS
Drawing attention to a common action by drivers at rest stops during travel, Ustaoğlu said, "When we take breaks, at the facilities we visit, they spray water on the vehicles. I definitely do not recommend spraying water on the wheels and rims. Spraying water causes brake pad and disc cracks."
"WE MUST HAVE THESE CHECKED..."
Ustaoğlu, stating that air conditioners, indispensable for in-vehicle comfort in summer heat, can cause health problems when used without maintenance, noted: "On long journeys, the cleanliness of air conditioners and air conditioner filters is very important; we must have them checked. When the engine heats up in hot weather, the air that passes through poorly maintained systems and enters the vehicle can cause headaches for both the driver and passengers. This negatively affects driving comfort and attention. Additionally, our drivers should not forget to have their windshield washer fluid checked before setting out."
