ATTACKS IN IRAQ ARE INCREASING
As of March 2026, Iraq has become one of the main fronts of direct conflicts between the U.S. and Israel with Iran amid escalating regional tensions. In recent weeks, especially following the airstrikes that began on February 28, Iran and some groups allied with it in the region have systematically targeted U.S. military and diplomatic assets throughout Iraq.
U.S. BASES AND EMBASSY BUILDINGS ARE BEING TARGETED
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has been subjected to UAV and rocket attacks; explosions were reported around the helicopter pad and defense systems within the compound. During the same period, dozens of drone attacks were carried out against U.S. bases in Erbil, while coalition forces reported that some of these attacks were intercepted by air defense systems, although some facilities were damaged.
In addition to military targets, the range of the attacks has also spread to critical energy infrastructure in southern Iraq. In the first half of March, the Rumaila oil field near Basra and energy facilities in the Zubair region were targeted by UAVs. Additionally, the military sections of Baghdad and Basra International Airports were among the locations affected by missile and drone attacks.
