5 SCHOOLS DAMAGED BY THE STORM IN DARICA ARE CLOSED
Due to the storm affecting the Darıca district of Kocaeli, education has been suspended for one day in 5 schools that suffered roof damage.
According to the information obtained, damage assessment studies were conducted in the schools by the District National Education Directorate and relevant units after the storm. In schools where damage was detected in the roof sections, a holiday decision was made considering the safety of students and staff.
The schools where education was suspended on Friday, January 9, were announced as follows:
"Fevzi Çakmak Anatolian High School, Aslan Cement Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, Tevfik İleri Imam Hatip Middle School, Tacirler Special Education Application School, Mehmet Akif Middle School."
It was reported that education would resume once it is made safe after the necessary work is completed.

Hakkari
In Hakkari, due to heavy snowfall, avalanche, and icing risk, education was suspended in all schools across the province on Friday, January 9, and some public employees were considered on administrative leave.
In a statement from the Hakkari Governorship, it was stated, "With the expected heavy snowfall starting from the morning hours, the avalanche risk that may arise from the snowfall that was effective in previous days, strong winds, and the adverse conditions that may occur due to icing necessitated the following measures to ensure the safety of our citizens and students: Due to the risk of heavy snowfall, avalanche, and icing, education will be suspended for one day on Friday, January 9, 2026, in all official and private educational institutions in Hakkari province (including preschools, primary schools, middle schools, high schools, adult education institutions, rehabilitation centers, private nurseries, and daycare centers). Additionally, considering the risks that students with appointments at Guidance and Research Centers (RAM) and individuals with disabilities may encounter during transportation, it was deemed appropriate to suspend services at RAMs on the same date to ensure their safety," it was stated.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS
In the continuation of the statement, it was mentioned, "Public employees who are pregnant and disabled, dialysis patients, and public officials with chronic illnesses such as heart failure, kidney failure, and cancer, as well as one of the parents from public employee couples with children aged 0-12, will be considered on administrative leave for one day on Friday, January 9, 2026. The administrative leave status of personnel working in health services and those responsible for emergency situations in the field, such as gendarmerie, police, and AFAD, will be planned by the relevant institution managers in a way that does not disrupt public services," it was stated.
Muş
Due to the expected heavy snowfall, icing, and avalanche risk across Muş, education was suspended for one day on Friday, January 9.
