MINISTER ÇİFTÇİ ANNOUNCED
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi made statements regarding the school attack in Kahramanmaraş. Minister Çiftçi announced that education in the city has been suspended for 2 days.
Minister Çiftçi made the following statement:
"An attack occurred at Aysel Çalık Middle School in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş. I would like to express that I am extremely saddened because of this. The incident occurred around 13:30. First, I need to state that the school operates on a double-shift system. At the exact dismissal time of the morning shift students, an 8th-grade, 14-year-old student of ours, who also attends the school, entered his classroom with weapons he brought from home and opened random fire, causing a great massacre at the school. As a result of this incident, we have 9 fatalities. Eight of them are students and one is our teacher. We have 13 injured, 6 of whom are in intensive care. The condition of 3 is also critical."
Minister Çiftçi also stated that 4 civil inspectors and 4 police chief inspectors have been assigned to conduct investigations regarding the incident. The Ministry of Justice also assigned 3 deputy chief public prosecutors and 4 public prosecutors to investigate the incident as part of the inquiry.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
An armed attack was carried out on a middle school in Kahramanmaraş, resulting in the death of 9 people.
It was learned that the perpetrator was an 8th-grade student who came to the school with his police officer father's weapons. The attacker was found dead at the scene.
