With 99.74% of the votes counted in the second round of Peru's presidential election, right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori holds a narrow lead. Left-wing candidate Roberto Sanchez, alleging irregularities in overseas votes, announced he would not recognize the election result or a Fujimori government if his objections are not considered.

As the vote count nears its end in the second round of Peru's presidential election, left-wing candidate Roberto Sanchez announced that he will not recognize the election results if his objections to overseas votes are not taken into account.

OBJECTIONS TO ELECTION RESULTS

Speaking at a press conference in the capital Lima, Roberto Sanchez argued that overseas votes should be considered invalid according to the new electoral law. Sanchez, claiming that otherwise the election result would be questionable, called on the National Election Jury (JNE).

Sanchez alleged serious irregularities in the vote counting process for overseas ballots, stating that electoral laws had been violated and the vote count should be stopped.

Sanchez said they would not accept the election results under current conditions, using the phrase: "If the JNE does not make a decision considering legal security, this fraud will be completed. Under conditions where rules are violated in this way, we will not recognize Ms. Fujimori's government."

"WE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE THE FUJIMORI GOVERNMENT"

Sanchez argued that the most important element supporting the fraud allegations is the regulation regarding the transfer of overseas votes, claiming that this undermines the nature of the electoral process.

FUJIMORI LEADS

According to the latest data announced by the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), 99.74 percent of the ballot boxes have been opened. Based on the results, right-wing Popular Force Party candidate Keiko Fujimori leads the race with 9,193,498 votes, representing 50.11 percent of the vote.

Left-wing candidate Roberto Sanchez of Together for Peru received 9,152,046 votes, with 49.88 percent of the vote.
