"COLOMBIA ELECTIONS ARE ALSO IMPORTANT FOR THE US"

Emphasizing that the elections in Colombia are significant not only for the country but also for the US, Trump said, "I am honored to offer my full and complete support to Abelardo due to his tremendous life achievements and his political support for me."

ELECTION GOES TO SECOND ROUND

Since no candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round of the presidential election held on May 31 in Colombia, the election has moved to a second round.

Abelardo de la Espriella, the candidate of the Defenders of the Homeland movement (Defensores de la Patria), came first with 43.62 percent of the vote. Ivan Cepeda, the left-wing candidate of the ruling Historical Pact party (Pacto Historico), came second with 41.13 percent of the vote. The two candidates will compete to become Colombia's new president in the second round elections on June 21.
