Youssef En-Nesyri did not score in the match against Comoros, where he started on the bench in the Africa Cup of Nations, missing the chance to share Ahmed Faras's record. Morocco won the match 2-0.
Fenerbahçe's Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri did not start the Africa Cup of Nations as he had hoped. Although he came on as a substitute in the match against Comoros, he failed to score and missed the opportunity to share a historic record.
MOROCCO BEAT COMOROS WITH 2 GOALS
In the first match of Group A of the Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco defeated Comoros 2-0. The goals that brought victory to Morocco came from Brahim Diaz in the 55th minute and Ayoub El Kaabi in the 74th minute. A penalty missed by Sofiane Rahimi in the 11th minute also drew attention.
EN-NESYRI STARTED ON THE BENCH
Sofyan Amrabat, who was loaned by Fenerbahçe to Real Betis, played the full 90 minutes, while Youssef En-Nesyri started the match on the bench. The striker came on in the 76th minute to replace Brahim Diaz but could not contribute to the score.
HE COULD NOT SHARE FARAS' RECORD
Youssef En-Nesyri, who previously scored 5 goals in the Africa Cup of Nations, aimed to share the record of 6 goals held by Ahmed Faras, the highest-scoring Moroccan player in the tournament's history. However, after failing to celebrate a goal in the first match, En-Nesyri left this opportunity for future matches.
EL KAABI'S GOAL CHANGED THE BALANCE
The bicycle kick goal scored by Ayoub El Kaabi, who started in the starting eleven instead of En-Nesyri, in the 74th minute received great acclaim. This performance by El Kaabi also made it more difficult for En-Nesyri to reclaim his spot in the starting eleven.
