New appointment decisions have been published in the Official Gazette. TÜİK President Erhan Çetinkaya was dismissed, and Mehmet Arabacı, Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration, was appointed in his place.
In the Saturday, May 9, 2026 issue of the Official Gazette, it was announced that the head of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has changed.
With the approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Mehmet Arabaci, Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration, was appointed to replace TurkStat President Erhan Cetinkaya.
HEAD OF THE CMB ALSO CHANGED
With the same decree, Mahmut Sutcu was appointed as the head of the Capital Markets Board (CMB), while Ahmet Aksu was appointed as the second head of the board and Yusuf Sumbul as a member.
Ibrahim Omer Gonul was appointed as the head of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority, and Abdi Serdar Ustunsalih as a member.
Yusuf Emre Akgunduz took the seat of Vice President of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), while Mehmet Avci, General Director of Procurement Services at the Ministry of National Defense, was dismissed; Zikrullah Erdogan, the district governor of Cinar district in Diyarbakir, was appointed to this position.
WHO IS THE NEW TURKSTAT PRESIDENT MEHMET ARABACI?
According to the appointment decision published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Arabaci was assigned for the TurkStat Presidency.
Born in 1977 in Bordeaux, France, Arabaci graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Public Finance in 2000.
After graduation, Arabaci passed the examination for assistant account expert and served as an assistant account expert from 2001 to 2004, and as an account expert from 2004 to 2007.
In 2007, Arabaci was appointed as the Group Head of Human Resources at the Revenue Administration. He held this position until 2009 and completed his master's degree in economics at the University of Illinois, United States, from 2009 to 2011.
HE ALSO SERVED ON THE TAX INSPECTION BOARD
Arabaci, who also conducted research, analysis, and internship on "Transfer Pricing in Commercial Banks," was appointed as the Group Head of Ankara Concealed Capital, Transfer Pricing, and Foreign Earnings at the Tax Inspection Board in 2011, and as the Deputy Head of the Tax Inspection Board in 2012.
Arabaci served as the Deputy Head of the Tax Inspection Board from 2012 to 2014 and was appointed as the Head of Department at the Revenue Administration in 2014.
After serving as the Head of the Revenue Management Department at the Revenue Administration from 2014 to 2019, Arabaci was appointed as the Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration in 2019. Arabaci was continuing his role as the Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Omer Gonul was appointed as the head of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority, and Abdi Serdar Ustunsalih as a member.
