A decision has been reached in the case where former referee and sports commentator Erman Toroğlu was tried on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information" due to statements he made on a television program he attended. In the hearing held at the Istanbul 56th Criminal Court of First Instance, the judge ruled for Toroğlu's acquittal.
HE ANNOUNCED HIS MONTHLY INCOME IN COURT
During the hearing, Erman Toroğlu's statements regarding his income drew attention during his defense. Toroğlu stated in court, "My average income is 600-700 thousand liras."
"I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY I AM HERE"
Speaking about the allegations against him, Toroğlu said, "I couldn't understand why I am here. I was doing a program at 10:30 PM. I was trying to learn about an issue regarding the Galatasaray President's action towards the federation president. The next day, they called me from the courthouse; first I was a witness, then I became a defendant."
NOTEWORTHY REMARKS ABOUT THE TFF PRESIDENT
Continuing his defense, Toroğlu claimed that the President of the Turkish Football Federation sent him a message, saying, "My dear Erman, I love you. I don't want you to be victimized. I will explain this when necessary. I am revealing this here for the first time."
PROSECUTOR SOUGHT PENALTY, COURT ACQUITTED
The public prosecutor, presenting his opinion in the hearing, demanded that Erman Toroğlu be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison. However, the court, at the end of the trial, issued an acquittal decision for Toroğlu.
