EU decision to impose sanctions on 54 entities operating Russia's 'shadow fleet'

The European Union decided to impose sanctions on 54 organizations responsible for operating the "shadow fleet" used by Russia to circumvent its oil embargo. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that pressure on Russia will continue, while criticizing Putin for recent attacks on Kyiv. RUSSIA'S "SHADOW FLEET" TARGETED

Speaking after the EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Luxembourg, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot announced new sanctions targeting the "shadow fleet" used by Russia to breach the oil embargo imposed due to the war in Ukraine.

Barrot declared that 54 organizations responsible for operating this fleet have been added to the sanctions list.

"PUTIN IS AN OBSTACLE TO PEACE"

Referring to Russia's recent attacks on Kyiv, Barrot noted that structures on the UNESCO World Heritage List were damaged and criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Barrot stated, "Putin persists in his colonial war and constitutes an obstacle to peace."

SANCTIONS ALSO AGAINST THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR NAVALNY'S DEATH

Emphasizing that the EU is taking new steps not only in the energy field but also regarding human rights, Barrot said that sanctions will be imposed on individuals held responsible for the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny, as well as persons and organizations identified as spreading Russian propaganda.

SUPPORT FOR US-IRAN AGREEMENT

Barrot expressed satisfaction with the agreement reached between the US and Iran. He stated that this agreement will be discussed at the G7 Leaders' Summit, covering Iran's nuclear and missile programs as well as its support for militia groups in the region.

EMPHASIS ON GAZA

The French Minister stated that all these developments should not overshadow the situation in Gaza and the West Bank. Barrot noted that Europe will not accept the violence in the West Bank and the increase in settlement activities, and reiterated the call for a two-state solution.
