Spain is experiencing its second heatwave this summer. More than 150 people lost their lives due to high temperatures in the early days of July. Additionally, forest fires continue, with 56,000 hectares of land turned to ash.
More than 150 people died due to high temperatures in the first days of July, under the influence of the second officially announced heatwave of this summer in Spain.

This figure was noted to be close to the June data from Spain's Ministry of Health's Daily Mortality Monitoring System (MoMo). MoMo reported 1,029 deaths from heat in June, the highest monthly death toll recorded since the system began in 2015.
THOUSANDS OF HECTARES REDUCED TO ASH
Meanwhile, the fight against forest fires continues across the country. One of these fires is the La Bisbal d'Emporda fire, which spread over an area with a radius of approximately 40 kilometers in the protected Les Gavarres region, turning nearly 2,200 hectares into ash.
According to satellite-based data from the European Forest Fire Information System, approximately 56,000 hectares of land in Spain have been damaged by fires in 2026.
