Evaluation of the trustee by Kasım Gülpınar: If he is in a situation where he cannot be a candidate, why is he allowed to run for candidacy?

The Ministry of Interior announced that trustees have been appointed to Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Batman Municipality, and Halfeti Municipality.

"IF THEY CANNOT BE A CANDIDATE, WHY ARE THEY ALLOWED TO RUN?"

Evaluating the trustee appointments, Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor M. Kasım Gülpınar stated that the process has led to various discussions among the public. Gülpınar said, "This is a legal process, of course, but the trustee process has been a topic of discussion for years. We need to see the legal consequences in this matter, but there has been a contradiction for years: if they are guilty, if they cannot be a candidate, why are they being nominated, why are they allowed to run?"

"DEMOCRACY MUST BE FULLY IMPLEMENTED"

Additionally, Gülpınar pointed out that it would be a more appropriate method to replace mayors who have been found guilty with new candidates determined by the municipal council, stating, "Elected officials do not have the freedom to commit crimes; however, democracy must be fully implemented."

Gülpınar continued his remarks as follows: "People are not pleased with their chosen candidates being subjected to such evaluations. This is a legal process. The file needs to be seen and examined. A criminal situation is being discussed. Elected officials cannot have the freedom to commit crimes in any way! I have always defended this when I was a member of parliament. This applies to all of us. We are currently in the mayoral seat."

As mayors, we are obliged to comply with the laws, just like during the parliamentary process. If there is going to be a trustee application, democracy must be fully implemented. If a mayor is removed from office due to a crime, it would be more appropriate to determine a new candidate in the municipal council."
