During the welding of a natural gas pipe, which was detected to have a gas leak in Aksaray, a blast occurred, injuring plumbing master Bahtiyar Kılınç (53) and homeowner Demirel Baydar (56). It was reported that Kılınç, one of the injured, is in critical condition.
The incident took place around 21:00 in a 4-story apartment on the 1st floor in the Meydan neighborhood. Demirel Baydar called plumbing master Bahtiyar Kılınç when he realized there was no natural gas in his home. During his inspection, Kılınç determined that there was a leak in the pipeline running over the door of his neighbor Selime Tan's apartment. He then shut off the gas flow from the valve.
GAS WAITED 1.5 HOURS FOR EVACUATION
According to allegations, Kılınç waited for about 1.5 hours for evacuation, opening the door of the room used as a pantry next to his neighbor Selime Tan's apartment to prevent the accumulation of gas from both the gas that had accumulated in the pipes and the area where the pipeline passed.
EXPLOSION OCCURRED
Then, an explosion occurred while he was welding the pipe. During the incident, Kılınç and the homeowner Demiral Baydar, who was with him, were injured. The pantry door was ripped off, and part of the wall was also destroyed.
2 PEOPLE INJURED
Upon notification, police, health, fire, and teams from the natural gas distribution company were dispatched to the address. The 2 injured individuals were taken to Aksaray Training and Research Hospital by ambulances. It was reported that Bahtiyar Kılınç, one of the injured, is in critical condition.
Aynur Eren, the daughter of Selime Tan, who recounted the events, said, "The leak filled the pantry, and those with natural gas in their homes closed their valves. They waited for 1.5 hours, then started welding, and there was an explosion from the spark. My mother was eating in the kitchen at that time; if she had been there, something could have happened to her. The wall exploded and collapsed, and the door of the house with the door was broken. My mother was very scared during the explosion."
