As tensions between the US and Iran escalate, a significant development has occurred. Reports in the US media suggest that, as a result of initiatives from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, delegations from Iran and the US may meet in Turkey this week. The reports included statements from an unnamed official saying, "The process is moving forward. We are doing our best." It was also noted that Trump has not yet made a final decision regarding an attack on Iran and remains open to a diplomatic solution.
As tensions continue between Iran and the USA, a striking claim has emerged from the American press.
"IRAN AND THE USA MAY MEET IN TURKEY THIS WEEK" CLAIM The reports indicate that Turkey, Egypt, and Qatar are continuing diplomatic contacts between the two countries. It is suggested that the three countries are working to arrange a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump's Special Representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and senior Iranian officials, claiming that delegations from Washington and Tehran may meet in Ankara this week.
"WE ARE DOING OUR BEST" The reports included statements from an unnamed official saying, "The process is ongoing. We are doing our best," while it was noted that Trump has not yet made a final decision regarding an attack on Iran and is open to a diplomatic solution.
Steve Witkoff WHAT HAPPENED? The region is witnessing increasing tensions due to Washington's unprecedented military buildup in the Middle East in preparation for a possible attack if Iran does not respond to its demands regarding its nuclear programs.
On January 28, U.S. President Donald Trump stated in a social media post that a massive "Armada" (a large naval force belonging to the U.S. Navy) was heading towards Iran, calling on the Tehran administration to reach an agreement, otherwise, a "worse attack" would be carried out.
Trump indicated that this Armada is larger than the fleet sent to Venezuela, stating, "(The fleet) is ready, willing, and capable of carrying out its mission quickly and violently if necessary, just like in Venezuela."
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) also announced on January 26 that the "USS Abraham Lincoln" aircraft carrier strike group was deployed to the Middle East to "support regional security and stability."
In recent reports, U.S. and Israeli media claimed that the U.S. would launch an attack on Tehran on Sunday, February 1, while Iran's religious leader Ali Khamenei stated that if the U.S. attacks his country, the war would be regional.
"MIDNIGHT HAMMER" OPERATION AGAINST IRAN While the nuclear negotiation process between Iran and the USA continues, Israel launched attacks targeting nuclear and military facilities as well as civilian settlements in various cities of Iran on June 13, 2025. The USA, which openly supported Israel, conducted attacks on three nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan on June 22, 2025, with an operation named "Midnight Hammer," using bombs that only the USA possesses and that are capable of penetrating bunkers.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the attacks as a "great success," while the first damage assessment report leaked to the media suggested that the attacks did not "destroy" Iran's nuclear program but only "delayed it by a few months."
