In the town of Degana in the Asturias region of Spain, an explosion at a coal mine resulted in the deaths of 5 people, while 4 others were seriously injured. It has been reported that the incident was caused by methane gas.
An explosion occurred in a coal mine in Spain. In the coal mine located in the town of Degana, part of the Principality of Asturias in the north of the country, 5 people lost their lives and 4 others were seriously injured in the explosion. Emergency service teams reported that 2 people escaped without injury.
A 2-DAY MOURNING HAS BEEN DECLARED
The representative of the Spanish government in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, stated that initial results indicate the explosion was caused by methane gas. Lastra said, "The police are already investigating what happened; they are already on site." Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured in a post on his social media account regarding the incident. The president of the regional government of Asturias, Adrian Barbon, declared a 2-day mourning.
