In the Erdemli district of Mersin, 20-year-old Ömer Bilkan Şahin, who suffered from epilepsy, passed away in the hospital after experiencing a seizure. An initial examination revealed that Şahin had not been taking his medication. His stepfather, Şükrü Ü., who was blamed by Şahin's relatives, was arrested by the court to which he was brought.
Ömer Bilkan Şahin, an epilepsy patient living with his family in the Yüksek neighborhood of the district, had a seizure around 02:00. Health officials dispatched to the address upon the family's notification provided initial intervention to Şahin and then transported him to Erdemli State Hospital by ambulance. Despite all the doctors' interventions, Şahin could not be saved. A preliminary examination at the hospital revealed that Şahin had not been taking his medication for a long time.
STEPMOTHER ACCUSED OF "WILLFULLY NOT TAKING MEDICATION"
Relatives claimed that the stepfather, Şükrü Ü., had willfully not given Şahin his medication and had frequently used violence. Following this, the police detained Şükrü Ü., who lived in the same house as Şahin. After the autopsy, Şahin's body was taken by his relatives and buried in the Türbe Cemetery after a funeral prayer attended by neighborhood residents and neighbors.
ARRESTED
After his procedures at the police station, Şükrü Ü. was brought to court, where he was arrested. It was reported that the investigation related to the incident is ongoing.
