Two brothers identified as responsible for the forest fire that occurred last year in the Lapseki district of Çanakkale have been fined 4 million 600 thousand TL. The fire affected 4 hectares of forest area.

In the Umurbey district of Lapseki, Çanakkale, a fire that allegedly started last year during garden cleaning at 3 different points and spread to a forested area affected 4 hectares of forested land. The two brothers identified as M.P. were fined 4 million 600 thousand TL for causing the fire. On October 20 of last year, a fire broke out in the forest depot area in Umurbey, Lapseki. The fire grew due to the wind. Teams from the Çanakkale Forest Regional Directorate intervened in the fire with 4 aircraft from the air, 19 fire trucks, 10 water tankers, and 210 personnel on the ground to bring it under control. The fire was brought under control with the intense intervention of the teams from both the air and the ground.

4 HECTARES OF FORESTED AREA AFFECTED BY THE FIRE

While cooling efforts continue in the region, the gendarmerie has launched an investigation into the incident. As part of the initiated investigation, it was determined that the fire broke out at 3 different points while the two brothers M.P. were cleaning the garden. The two suspects were detained by the gendarmerie. After their procedures at the gendarmerie, the suspects were released under judicial control. In the ongoing investigation related to the fire, the two brothers M.P. were fined 4 million 600 thousand TL for causing the fire that affected 4 hectares of forested land, which started during garden cleaning at 3 different points and spread to the forested area. Enver Demirci, the Director of the Çanakkale Forest Regional Directorate, stated, "Once the perpetrators of the fires are identified, the state seeks to collect damages from the responsible parties voluntarily. In this regard, the state incurred a loss of approximately 4 million 600 thousand lira due to the fire in Umurbey. Steps will be taken to collect this from the responsible parties."
