A fire that broke out in the engine compartment of a car traveling on the Antalya-Konya D-695 Highway rendered the vehicle completely unusable. The driver saved his family at the last moment, and the flames also spread to a forested area but were extinguished before growing larger thanks to the intervention of the teams.
The car carrying a family who had completed their holiday in Alanya and set off to return to Konya, caught fire and burned fiercely while traveling on the Antalya-Konya D-695 Highway, after a fire broke out in the engine compartment. The driver pulled the car to the side of the road and got his family out, while the fire, which also spread to the forested area by the roadside, was extinguished before growing larger thanks to the intervention of passing drivers and Forestry Management teams.
FAMILY EXPERIENCED TERROR
According to information obtained, the Hyundai Tucson with license plate 42 NM 489, driven by Muhammet Şimşek, traveling from Manavgat direction towards Akseki on the Antalya-Konya D-695 Highway, caught fire after passing the Taşkesiği neighborhood by about 4-5 kilometers due to a fire originating from the engine compartment.
Noticing the situation, the driver pulled the vehicle to the right side of the road and evacuated his wife and children from the car. While unloading the luggage, passing drivers provided initial intervention to the flames with fire extinguishers. Meanwhile, the flames rising from the car spread to the forested area by the roadside.
CAR BECAME UNUSABLE
A water tender belonging to the nearby Forestry Management Directorate, dispatched to the area upon notification, intervened in both the burning car and the fire starting in the forested area, bringing the flames under control. Teams from the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department Manavgat Unit, arriving at the scene, carried out cooling operations on the vehicle. After the fire, the car was completely burned and became unusable.
THEY RUSHED TO HELP THE FAMILY
Passing citizens rushed to help the driver's wife and children, who got out of the car at the last moment during the fire. The citizens seated the family on chairs by the roadside, covered them with rugs, and tried to protect them from the sun. 112 Emergency Health teams arriving at the scene also conducted a health check on the family.
Stating that they were vacationing in Alanya's Mahmutlar neighborhood and on their way back to Konya as a family, driver Muhammet Şimşek said, "When we got here, smoke and flames suddenly started coming out of the engine compartment. I pulled the car to the side of the road and got my family out. Thank God nothing happened to us."
