The United States Central Command issued a new statement regarding U.S. soldiers in the region following heightened tensions with Iran. It was reported that human remains believed to belong to a soldier previously listed as missing after two soldiers died in an Iranian attack in Jordan have been found, while it was also announced that a U.S. soldier lost his life in northern Iraq.
In the Iranian attack targeting a military base in Jordan, 2 US soldiers were reported killed and 1 soldier was reported missing. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that comprehensive search and rescue operations at the site led to the discovery of unidentified military remains earlier today. It was stated that the identification and examination process is ongoing to determine whether the found remains belong to the missing soldier.
UNEXPLODED ORDNANCE DETONATED IN IRAQ
Another tragic report from the region came from northern Iraq. During the controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance remaining from a one-way attack drone belonging to Iran, shot down on July 18, 1 US soldier lost his life. It was announced that another soldier, lightly injured in the same incident, is continuing medical treatment.
CENTCOM has not yet released the identities of the deceased and missing soldiers to the public, as the legal notification process for families is ongoing.
