Actor Mark Hamill, known worldwide for his role as Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" series, sparked major backlash on social media and in political circles due to a post about US President Donald Trump. Hamill shared an AI-generated image depicting Trump in a grave with the caption "If only," prompting a strong statement from the White House. Following the criticism, the famous actor deleted the post and issued an apology message.

AI IMAGE SPARKS BACKLASH

Hamill's post came shortly after an assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. The post on his Bluesky account featured an AI-generated image showing Trump as if lying in a grave, with the caption "If only." The post quickly trended on social media.

As reactions grew, Hamill issued a new statement arguing that Trump should be held politically accountable. The famous actor said in his post, "He should live long enough to account for his crimes," indicating he did not actually wish for Trump's death.

WHITE HOUSE FIRES BACK

White House Spokesperson Davis Ingle targeted Hamill in a statement on the matter. The statement said, "Barack Obama appeared in the same video as this person a few days ago. Now, the same person wishes for President Trump's death." The White House also called on Democrats to condemn the post.

DELETES POST, APOLOGIZES

After the mounting backlash, Hamill removed the original post and shared a different photo of Trump with an explanation. In his message, the actor said, "Clarification for clarity: 'May he live long enough to account for his crimes. Actually, I wished for him not to die, but I apologize if you found that expression inappropriate."

Hamill continued his message: "He should live long enough to witness his inevitable crushing defeat in the midterm elections, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, be impeached, convicted, and humiliated for countless crimes. He should live long enough to realize he will forever be infamously recorded in history books."

Hamill is known to have previously made harsh criticisms of the Trump administration.

The famous actor said in a podcast interview that he felt "ashamed" that the American people had re-elected Trump.
