Asil Nadir, a Turkish Cypriot businessman, passed away in the evening at a private hospital in the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Nicosia, where he had been receiving treatment for some time. The news of 83-year-old Asil Nadir's death was announced by his wife, Nur Nadir, on her social media accounts.

Following the death of businessman Asil Nadir, TRNC Prime Minister Ünal Üstel published a condolence message. In his message, Üstel stated, "I am deeply saddened to learn of Asil Nadir's passing. Asil Nadir, who achieved great successes in the business world with his vision, entrepreneurship, and courage, left a significant mark not only in our country but also on the international stage, inspiring many with his hard work and determination."
Asil Nadir, who achieved global success by surpassing his own limits and contributed to many fields such as economy, press, media, and education, will be remembered for his support of production, employment, and social development. WHO IS ASIL NADİR?
Born on May 1, 1941, in the city of Lefke in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), businessman Asil Nadir moved to England with his family in the early 1960s and entered the textile industry there. At one point, Nadir purchased shares of the British company Polly Peck, through which he operated in the food, electronics, and services sectors. Asil Nadir, who had investments in electronics and media in Turkey, also purchased the Günaydın and Güneş newspapers for a time. Nadir lost his fortune after being sentenced to 10 years in prison in England for embezzlement while he was the chairman of Polly Peck, one of the world's leading giant companies and among the wealthy. He also founded the Cyprus Newspaper, which was once the highest-circulation newspaper in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
