Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek was electrocuted while trying to check a malfunction in the machine room of the pool in the garden of his house in Keçiliköy Neighborhood.
ADMITTED TO INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
After his family reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Health teams, the medical teams that arrived at the scene performed CPR on Mayor Zeyrek and took him to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital. It was learned that 48-year-old Mayor Zeyrek, whose condition was serious, received CPR. Ferdi Zeyrek was admitted to the intensive care unit after the interventions at the hospital.
PROVINCIAL HEALTH DIRECTOR ZEREN: CRITICAL CONDITION CONTINUES
Manisa Provincial Health Director Mehmet Fatih Zeren stated in a press conference at the hospital that a call was received at the 112 Command Control Center around 23:30 reporting that Zeyrek had been electrocuted. Zeren reported that the teams reached the scene within 8 minutes after the notification, saying, "The patient's consciousness was observed to be absent. He was brought to our hospital by the 112 teams with CPR. Our patient was admitted to the intensive care unit with the interventions made at the hospital. Currently, the necessary treatment is ongoing in the intensive care unit. However, his critical condition continues," he stated. Zeren noted that Ferdi Zeyrek's heart had stopped when he was brought to the hospital, saying, "He arrived unconscious. He is currently being sedated."
ÖZGÜR ÖZEL: HIS HEART STARTED BEATING AFTER 70 MINUTES
Özgür Özel, the Chairman of the CHP, who was in Manisa, also went to the hospital to get information about Ferdi Zeyrek's health condition. Later, Özel stated to the press that the incident occurred around 23:35 while intervening in a malfunction in the pool's motor. "We are all in great shock. We lost him once, we hope to find him back. We are going through very difficult minutes," Özel continued, "The ambulance arrives within 5-6 minutes. And they start CPR on his stopped heart. They perform CPR there for minutes, and then they come here. From the moment the ambulance arrived, proper CPR and artificial respiration were performed, so we hope that oxygen reached his brain and that, except for the first 6-7 minutes of the 70 minutes of intervention, oxygen has gone to his brain. After 70 minutes, his pulse, which came back a few times intermittently, returned. His heart started beating. Right now, his heart is beating quite well, working without support. Our hope is that a miracle will happen. In fact, the miracle happened with the heart starting to work after 70 minutes."
"EVERY PASSING MINUTE IS GETTING BETTER"
Özel emphasized that it will be determined later whether there is any damage to Mayor Zeyrek's brain functions, stating, "All the doctors, nurses, and the chief physician here are doing everything they can and more. There is nothing we can do here other than silently pray. I believe that a great miracle has happened; a heart does not start working after 70 minutes like that. This is a miracle. A greater one will happen, and we will reunite with our brother Ferdi. Mayor Ferdi's condition is getting better every passing minute. But this does not mean that the danger has passed. His condition is stable and improving, but of course, it is too early to say, 'The danger has passed, Mayor Ferdi's health will be quite good.' Patience is needed for this."
